Coupling fraction model to interpret the motion of non-fully coupled strike-slip faults

چکیده

Despite coupling fractions being extensively used in the interseismic period, coexistence of locking and creeping mechanisms correlation between fraction depth remain poorly understood because lack a physical model. To overcome these limitations, this study, we propose model for interpreting motion non-fully coupled strike-slip faults based on classic two-dimensional fault superposition principle. The was constructed using numerous tiny, alternating segments. deformation produced by is same as that fault, except scale factor. definition can be perfectly integrated. Based model, put forward varying decoupled with which considers depth-dependent fraction. two models provide deep insights into characteristics quasi-arctangent curves local macroscopic period.

3D stochastic rock fracture modeling related to strike-slip faults

Fault zones and fault-related fracture systems control the mechanical behaviors and fluid-flow properties of the Earth’s crust. Furthermore, nowadays, modeling is being increasingly used in order to understand the behavior of rock masses, and to determine their characteristics. In this work, fault zones and fracture patterns are reviewed, and also comprehensive studies are carried out on the fr...

Multicycle dynamics of nonplanar strike-slip faults

[1] We perform two-dimensional dynamic models of strike-slip faults with a change in strike (a bend) over multiple earthquake cycles to examine the long-term effects of nonplanar fault geometry. A viscoelastic model (a proxy for off-fault deformation and tectonic loading) is introduced for the interseismic process to avoid pathological stress buildup around the bend. A finite element method wit...

The Dynamics of Strike-Slip Step-Overs with Linking Dip-Slip Faults

Fault step-overs with linking dip-slip faults are common features on long strike-slip fault systems worldwide. It has been noted by various researchers that under some circumstances, earthquakes can jump across fault step-overs to cascade into large events, while under other circumstances rupture is arrested at stepovers. There is also evidence that fault step-overs may be preferential location...

Major intracontinental strike-slip faults and contrasts in lithospheric strength

A large fraction of major intracontinental strike-slip faults, defi ned here as those slipping at rates of ~10 mm/yr or more, lie adjacent to relatively strong regions, such as oceanic lithosphere or Precambrian shields. We suggest that such faults form adjacent to discontinuities in strength, because strain in a continuous medium must concentrate near such strong objects. Concentration in stra...
